Bizzar Host Blocker
Bizzar Host Blocker is not exactly a breakthrough in ad/spyware blocking. This is a technique I learned through reading different sites. Basically, this script will add entries to your local hosts file that will prevent IE and/or Firefox from loading websites that contain garbage. This not only speeds up your browsing time, but also prevents you from accidently loading malware intended content. It is not a perfect system and you should definitely consider getting some real protection, but it’s a start and it’s free so it’s worth a shot.
This is a php script, but I put it inside of an installer for Windows to simplify the install. A webserver is NOT required. Just download the zip, unzip, and run the installer. It will create an icon on your desktop that you run to get the most up-to-date listings from my database, BOOM! It’s done! There is also an uninstaller if you want to remove it, though I don’t think it removes the entries from the hosts file. Eh, I’ll put that on the TODO list.
